Create a Subscription offer

Combine quantity tiers with a Subscribe & save option so customers can buy more and subscribe in one step, using the Subscription template.

What it is and when to use it

The Subscription template combines buy X, get Y tiers with a “Subscribe & save” option. Customers pick how many units they want and, in the same place, choose whether to subscribe or buy once.

Use it for products people buy again and again, like coffee, supplements or cosmetics, when you want more repeat purchases.

What your store needs first

BOGOX uses the selling plans that a subscriptions app creates on your products, for example Shopify Subscriptions, which is free. BOGOX doesn’t create plans or charge renewals: your subscriptions app handles billing, deliveries and cancellations.

  • Install a subscriptions app and add your products to a plan.

  • The Subscribe & save option only appears on products that have a selling plan. On other products, the offer works as a one-time purchase.

  • If a product has two or more plans, customers can choose the plan they want (except in the Link layout, which uses the first plan).

How it looks in your store

The template starts with three tiers: buy 1, get 1 free; buy 2, get 3 free; and buy 3, get 6 free, with a free gift text on the third tier. The first tier starts selected.

Below the tiers there is a Subscribe & save checkbox, ticked by default, with the title “Subscribe & Save” followed by the plan’s discount and the subtitle “Zero Commitment, Cancel Anytime”. While the box is ticked, the order is added to the cart as a subscription. If the customer unticks it, it becomes a one-time purchase.

Create the offer

  1. In your Shopify admin, open BOGOX and click Templates in the app menu.

  2. Choose Subscription in the Templates list, pick your colors and click Use this template.

  3. In Products, choose the products under Show offer on. Pick products that have a selling plan.

  4. In Discount tiers, adjust the tiers if you want different quantities or texts.

  5. In Extras, under Shopping experience, open Subscriptions. It’s already on; review its settings.

  6. Check the Preview with a product that has a selling plan, then click Publish.

Subscription settings

  • Layout: Checkbox shows one box to subscribe. Link shows a single link to switch option. Horizontal and Vertical show the subscription and one-time options side by side or stacked.

  • Preselect subscription: when it’s on, the subscription option starts selected (in the checkbox layout, the box starts ticked). Turn it off to start with the one-time purchase.

  • Position: Above the tiers or Below the tiers.

  • Block title, Subscribe title, Subscribe subtitle, One-time title and One-time subtitle: the texts of the block. The checkbox layout doesn’t use the one-time texts.

  • Show subscription and one-time prices adds both prices to the block, and Hide tier prices then hides the prices on the tiers.

  • Add highlights lists short benefits next to the subscription option. In the Style tab you can change colors and Text sizes.

Tip: if the preview shows Some products aren't eligible for subscriptions, the product you’re previewing has no selling plan. Add it to a plan in your subscriptions app, or show the offer only on products that have one.
