What it is and when to use it
A Buy X, get Y deal gives customers extra units for free (or at a discount) when they buy a set quantity. For example: buy 1, get 1 free, or buy 2, get 3 free.
Use it when you want to sell more units per order with an offer everyone understands at a glance. It’s a classic for launches, seasonal pushes and clearing stock. You can also add a gift to your biggest tier to make it even more attractive.
How it looks for shoppers
On the product page, shoppers see one option per tier, such as “Buy 1, get 1 free”, with the total price, the original price crossed out and a label like “SAVE 50%”. A tier can show an extra gift line, for example “+ FREE special gift!”.
The shopper picks a tier, chooses the variants if needed and adds it to the cart. The free units are discounted automatically in the cart and at checkout.
How to create it
In BOGOX, click Create offer on the Home page, or open Templates in the app menu.
In the list, choose Buy X, get Y (BXGY) deal. The Store preview shows how it will look.
Optional: pick one of the color palettes, or choose Brand to use your Brand colors.
Click Use this template. The editor opens with the offer ready to adjust.
In Products, choose where the offer appears under Show offer on: All products, Specific products or Specific collections.
Adjust your tiers in Discount tiers (see the next section) and check the Preview.
Click Publish to make the offer live. Not ready yet? Use Save in the bar at the top to keep it as a draft.
The new offer starts with 3 tiers: buy 1 get 1 free, buy 2 get 3 free, and buy 3 get 6 free. The first tier starts selected, and tier 3 has a text gift line.
If the offer doesn’t show on your store, check that BOGOX is turned on in your theme: Online Store > Themes > Customize > App embeds, then Save.
Key settings to adjust
In Discount tiers, click a tier to open it. Under Quantities and pricing you’ll see two rows:
Buy: how many units the shopper pays for, and their Pricing. Usually No discount.
Get: how many extra units the shopper receives, and their Pricing. Percentage off at 100 makes them free. Use 50 for “half price”, or choose Amount off or Fixed price.
Then, under Tier text and Selection options:
Title, Subtitle and Discount label: the texts of the tier. The button on the right of each field inserts values such as the saved percentage or the saved total, which update on their own. If you change the Buy or Get quantities, update the title too.
Require variant choice: shoppers must choose a variant before adding the deal. It’s useful when your product has sizes or colors.
Selected by default: tick it on the tier you want shoppers to see already chosen.
To add another deal, click Add tier and choose Buy X, get Y. You can have up to 20 tiers.
Turn the gift line into a real gift
The gift on tier 3 is only text: it doesn’t add a product or a discount. To give a real gift, open tier 3 and go to Images, gifts and more:
In the gift, click Select a product and choose the product you want to give away.
Check the Text shoppers will see, for example “+ FREE gift”.
Or choose Free shipping instead of Free gift.
BOGOX applies a 100% discount to the gift automatically. To add gifts to another tier, use Add gift and choose Single gift or Choice of gifts.
Tip: keep the jump between tiers clear, so the biggest tier feels like the best deal. A real gift on the top tier often gives shoppers the extra push to choose it.
