A checkbox upsell is a small card under your offer with a box shoppers can tick to add another product to their order. In BOGOX it is called Checkbox add-ons, and you can show up to 20 of them in one offer.

Turn on Checkbox add-ons

  1. Open your offer and go to the Extras step.

  2. In Increase order value, turn on the switch next to Checkbox add-ons. The section opens with a first add-on, Upsell #1.

  3. Optionally, type a Block title. It shows above the add-on cards.

  4. To show more products, click Add upsell. Use the arrows to change their order or Remove upsell to delete one.

Choose the product

Each add-on has two ways to pick its product:

  • Selected product: click Select a product and choose it in the picker. You can then pick a Pre-selected variant (by default, First available variant), limit which variants shoppers can choose with the pencil button (Edit variants), or use Edit image to show a different picture from your Shopify files. Reset image goes back to the product’s own photo.

  • Complementary product: the card shows the complementary product you set for the product page in the Shopify Search & Discovery app (Open Search & Discovery). If a product has no complementary product, the card doesn’t appear.

Set the price and texts

In Price, choose how the add-on is priced:

  • Full price: no discount.

  • Percentage off or Amount off: enter the Discount per item. New add-ons start at 20% off.

  • Fixed price: enter the price shoppers pay for each item in Total price.

The Title and Subtitle can use variables, so they always show the real product and savings. New add-ons start with the product name as the title and “Save {{saved_amount}}!” as the subtitle. The card also shows the price, and the original price crossed out when there is a discount.

Variants, quantity and subscriptions

  • Show product options only when selected (on by default) hides the variant and quantity options until the shopper ticks the box.

  • Match quantity with deal bar adds as many add-on items as the quantity of the tier the shopper picked.

  • Show quantity selector lets shoppers choose how many add-on items they want.

  • Enable subscription (on by default) applies when the offer has subscriptions: choose Follow deal subscription or Always sell as subscription. See “Create a Subscription offer” for details.

If you set up color swatches for the offer, the add-on’s options use the same swatch style. When the shopper taps a color on the add-on card, the add-on switches to that variant and shows its photo. Sold-out variants can’t be chosen.

What shoppers see and tips

Shoppers see each add-on as a card with a checkbox, photo, title, subtitle and price. When they add the offer to the cart, every ticked add-on goes in with it, and the add-on discount is applied at checkout.

  • Pick products that go well with the main one, like accessories, refills or a gift box.

  • Keep the discount simple and mention the saving in the subtitle.

  • Use the preview on the right to tick the add-on and check its options before you publish.
